I joined Serve the city on December 2019 and my first project was Christmas Eve. I was really happy to share that night with other people. We served dinner, washed dishes and played bingo. That was one of my best experiences with Serve the city, because at that time i was new in Belgium and didn’t know many people. After that i did a lot of other volunteering work: painting, cooking, cleaning, helping refugees, helping at music events and more.
I am always amazed at how Serve the City Leuven is able to manage big projects together and how enjoyable it is to work with them. It’s a good feeling to have a positive impact on the community and how we can make the world a better place when we work together. If each of us takes a small step, everything can become better than now. I remember a project I participated in at Maakbaar. I worked the entire day and we really worked a lot. At the end of the day there was a big improvement. Another project I volunteered at was at Buurtwerk ’t Lampeke where we made soup for their team. It was the first time any of the volunteers had made pumpkin soup. Each one of us had another idea about which spices to add, but the result was delicious, and people liked it.
The best thing about Serve the city is that you can find many different people from around the world. You can share your experience and also learn from other volunteers.
